Because my son (soldier/combat medic/U.S. Army)  is off the grid for a couple weeks, my heart is heavy.

I am still awake. A million thoughts keep racing through my head.

I wish I could write it out but words seem useless and ineffective. I am strong but in a weak way. I am good because I know he is safe, for tonight, but terrified because this won’t always be the case. The future feels very, very unsafe. I am overwhelmed by pride for all he has accomplished yet, still, I wish I could make time slow down a bit. I cry with joy for the man, the soldier, he has become but I openly admit some of my tears are for the little boy who no longer is.

Words. Ugh. They have always been my joy and comfort — now they are nothing close to enough.

Thankfully, my faith allows me the beauty of not needing words. Not words to pray and not words to speak. My heart can pray on its own. Which is quite amazing. My soul can plead right to the heart of God and I don’t have to formulate a single sentence. Which is God’s mercy on a worried moms heart. Because I don’t care of you are the Mama of a newborn who won’t quit crying or the Mama of a soldier, when your heart is worried and concerned, your words don’t..word right.

So for tonight, I cling to the verse I’ll type below. I don’t know my prayers. But I know my God. He is powerful and loving and just and WISE and He holds my future and the future of my soldier. He promises love and goodness and light to drive back evil.

Yes, with a God like that – who needs words? I can let His spirit, in my heart, pray for me. How amazing, how awesome is this God?

All my prayers for you who are facing similar word scrambled days and sleepless nights, right now..

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” – Romans 8:26-27

And echoed in the words of one of my favorite songs, by 7eventh Time Down, “Just Say Jesus”

When you don’t know what to say
Just Say Jesus
There is power in the name
The Name of Jesus
If the words wont come
Cause you’re to afraid to pray
Just Say Jesus

Whisper it now, or shout it out
However it comes out, He hears your cry
Out of nowhere He will come-you got to believe it
He will rescue you
Just call out to the Way, The Truth, The Life

When you don’t know what to say
Just Say Jesus
